Leader in Digital Health Innovation and Quality Improvement Science
Bio
Dr Peter Steel is an emergency physician and health systems scientist. His work focuses on translating data, AI, and digital health innovation into practical, scalable impact through Learning Health System approaches.
Previously, Dr Steel held senior clinical and quality leadership roles in U.S. academic medicine at the NewYork-Presbyterian Health System and Weill Cornell Medicine. He led federally and industry funded research programs focused on AI-enabled risk stratification and digitally supported transitions of care. His work has spanned clinical operations, implementation science, and translational research, with a consistent emphasis on a central challenge facing modern health systems: not whether innovation is possible, but how to operationalize it safely and reliably within complex clinical environments.
Dr Steel currently serves as Vice Chair of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety for the American College of Emergency Physicians, sits on the editorial board of npj Health Systems, and advises health technology companies on responsible academic–industry partnership and implementation strategy. His work is driven by a belief that the next generation of digital health leaders must be fluent not only in data and technology, but also in systems, culture, and care delivery.
