Prof Carolyn Day

Bio

Carolyn is a drug and alcohol public health researcher with expertise in harms associated with substance use, including infectious disease and harm reduction. She has a specific interest in substance issues for women. Carolyn’s research is multidisciplinary and she collaborates widely across the University, nationally and internationally. She is managing editor for the peer-reviewed journal Drug and Alcohol Review.

Carolyn has been a Director of the NSW Alcohol and Drug Foundation (ADF NSW) since 2009 which operates a residential treatment service for women with substance use issues and their children. She is also an Honorary Research Associate with the Sydney Uniting Medically Supervised Injecting Centre. Caorlyn Is also the Illicit Drug Theme Lead at the Edith Collins Centre (Translational Research in Alcohol, Drugs and Toxicology), Sydney Local Health District.

Naseem Ahmadpour

Bio

Dr Naseem Ahmadpour is a researcher in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). She is a member of the Design Lab and leads Affective Interactions research group. She was awarded her PhD in human-machine interaction from the University of Montreal (Ecole Polytechnique), Canada and her MSc in industrial design (specialised in human factors) from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Professor Sze-Yuan Ooi

Director of the Coronary Care Unit & Senior Staff Cardiologist, Prince of Wales Hospital

Bio

Professor Sze-Yuan is a clinician researcher with extensive clinical experience and expertise in the fields of coronary intervention and cardiac device implantation, including novel implantable cardiac device and remote monitoring technologies. He is a Senior Staff Specialist at the Prince of Wales Hospital and is the Director of the Coronary Care Unit.

Sze-Yuan obtained his Bachelor degree in Medicine and Surgery with Honours from the University of Queensland in 1997. He is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (FCSANZ). Sze-Yuan's principal research focus is the development, validation and implementation of novel digital health solutions. Sze-Yuan has been awarded over $25M in research funding over the last 5 years. Sze-Yuan is a Conjoint Professor, UNSW Sydney.

Professor Nigel Lovell

Head of School, Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering, UNSW

Bio

Scientia Professor Lovell is the Head of the  School of Biomedical Engineering, UNSW working in the areas of bionics, telehealth, deep learning, artificial hearts and biorobotics. Nigel has authored 400+ journal papers and been awarded over $120 million in R&D funding.

Over his career he has mentored 100 PhD students and delivered more than 150 keynote presentations. He is a Fellow of seven learned academies throughout the world. He is also actively involved in medtech translation having co-founded four startups.

For 2017 and 2018 Nigel was the President of the world’s largest biomedical engineering society – the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society and he continues to be actively involved in professional outreach internationally.

Nigel was named the inaugural Co-Director of the Tyree Institute of Health Engineering (IHealthE). In this role, he drives the Institute’s vision to deliver transformative digital and telehealth innovations, developing and translating technologies that enhance connectivity, efficiency, and outcomes for both patients and clinicians.

Myron Godinho

Myron has 7 years of health research experience and a background in medicine. His doctoral research studied Community Health Alliances in South Western Sydney to develop and test a framework for using Digital Health, Social Enterprise, and Citizen Engagement in the co-production of Integrated People-Centred Health Services.

Pip Brennan

Health Consumers Council

Bio

Pip Brennan is a long-standing consumer advocate in Western Australia’s health sector, currently serving as the Digital Health Lead for the Health Consumers’ Council (HCC).

With over 25 years of experience, Pip is currently co-located within WA Health’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Program, where she convenes the EMR Consumer Reference Group, facilitates webinars, and ensures WA Health’s EMR Consumer Charter continues to inform how the EMR is implemented in WA. Her work focuses on ensuring that digital health systems like EMRs and patient portals, are designed with meaningful consumer input, prioritising transparency, interoperability, and equitable access to health information.

Connie Henson

UNSW

Bio

Connie is a Senior Research Fellow at UNSW with PhDs in Psychology and Health Systems & Populations. Her research focuses on digital health equity and system change, particularly for priority populations—including older adults, women, and people in underserved and remote communities. She leads and co-lead co-designed studies that explore the use of wearable technology, digital platforms, and inclusive health models to promote access, engagement, and wellbeing.

Over the past two years, she’s contributed to securing more than $5.4 million in competitive research funding (MRFF, Heart Foundation, philanthropic) and published widely on digital health, social media use in health promotion, and participatory co-design methods. She’s contributed to the development of evidence-based models that support inclusive research partnerships and foster health system responsiveness to diverse needs and experiences.

With 35 years of experience in behavioural science, she brings a strong background in organisational change, psychological research, and practical implementation across sectors. Her work is grounded in values of equity, curiosity, and translational impact—ensuring that research creates real-world benefits for the communities who need it most.

Adrian Boscolo

Sydney Local Health District, RPA Virtual Hospital

Bio

Dr Adrian Boscolo is Deputy Chief Medical Information Officer at Sydney Local Health District and a General Practitioner Staff Specialist at Sydney Virtual. He holds fellowships with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) and is an Associate Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (AFRACMA). Adrian is a Certified Health Informatician (CHIA) and Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

Adrian led NSW Health's first AI ambient scribe implementation at the RPA Sarcoma Clinic and developed a risk-based governance framework for AI tool assessment at SLHD. He serves as Medical Lead for RPA Virtual Hospital's Long COVID programme and co-chairs the NSW Health SDPR Working Group for Virtual Care and Remote Patient Monitoring. His work spans digital health implementation, clinical governance, and translating complex technology concepts for diverse healthcare stakeholders while maintaining active clinical practice.
